Daily trail breakdown, key milestones, altitudes, and campsites.

DAY 01

Day 1: Cusco – Km 82 – Wayllabamba

We pick you up in Cusco and drive to Km 82 (Piscacucho), where your permit is checked and your private trek begins. The first day is an easy introduction along the Urubamba valley, with a stop at the Inca site of Llactapata, before reaching the campsite at Wayllabamba.

Distance: about 10 km (6.2 miles)
Highest point: 3,000 m (9,842 ft) at Wayllabamba

DAY 02

Day 2: Wayllabamba – Dead Woman's Pass – Paqaymayu Alto

The most demanding day of the trek: a steady climb to Dead Woman's Pass (Warmiwañusca), the highest point of the Inca Trail, followed by the descent to the campsite at Paqaymayu Alto. With a private group you set the pace and the length of the breaks.

Distance: about 12 km (7.4 miles)
Highest point: 4,215 m (13,829 ft) at Dead Woman's Pass

DAY 03

Day 3: Paqaymayu Alto – Runkurakay – Wiñay Wayna

A long and scenic day over the second and third passes of the trail, visiting the Inca sites of Runkurakay, Sayacmarca, Phuyupatamarca and Intipata before descending into the cloud forest to camp near Wiñay Wayna.

Distance: about 16 km (9.9 miles)
Highest point: 3,950 m (12,959 ft) at the Runkurakay pass

Send us your preferred start date, the number of travelers and the full name, passport number and nationality of each one. We check permit availability for that date and send you a quote for your group. You can see the spaces left for each start date in the availability calendar on this page.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Answers to the most common questions regarding trail preparation and logistics.

What is a private Inca Trail tour?

It is the same Classic Inca Trail route from Km 82, but only for your group: you have a personal guide and do not share the trek with other travelers, so you can walk at your own pace.

How much does a private Inca Trail cost?

The price depends on the number of travelers and the date. Send us your group size and preferred date and we will send you a quote. Optional extras: single tent USD 80, personal porter USD 180, sleeping bag USD 25 and trekking poles USD 25.

Do private tours also need Inca Trail permits?

Yes. Every Inca Trail hiker needs a permit for a specific start date, and the daily limit of 500 people (including guides, cooks and porters) applies to private tours too. Book as early as you can, especially from May to September; see our Inca Trail permits guide.

Can I book other Inca Trail tours as private?

Yes. We can also arrange the Short Inca Trail and the 5-day Inca Trail as private treks. Tell us which one you prefer.

Is a private Inca Trail suitable for children or older travelers?

There is no official age limit. We do not recommend the trek for children under seven, and travelers over 60 should check with their doctor first. A private trek makes it easier to adapt the pace to your group.
