Why Does the Inca Trail Feel Longer Than 42 Kilometers?#

While the total distance is only 42 kilometers, several factors make the trek more challenging than many travelers expect:

High Altitude

Much of the trail is located above 3,000 meters (9,800 feet), where thinner air can make hiking more demanding.
