Inca Trail Vs Inca Jungle
The Classic 4 day Inca Trail allows you to trek the famous route seeing ancient ruins and settlements along the way. If what you’re looking for is history and culture then the Inca trail is for you. However, you do need a permit for this trek so booking months, even a year in advance is necessary. If you are looking for a more alternative way to reach the revered Machu Picchu then the Inca Jungle trek is for you. This one’s for our adrenaline junkies and thrill seekers. Experience cloud forest and the Andean mountains by white water rafting, mountain biking, trekking and zip lining your way through. This trek needs no Inca Trail Permit so if you are a little impulsive there is no need to book months and months in advance.

The Inca Trail Road
The Classic Inca Trail is a 4-day trek on foot that follows the original pathways of the Incas. Trails from this ancient civilisation spur from Cusco and reach out to important sites such as Machu Picchu. The classic Inca Trail starts at Ollantaytambo at 82km above sea level and passes several important ruins and settlements, climbing mountains and disappearing into amazon rainforest before leading through the original entrance (Sun Gate) to the ancient city of Machu Picchu.
The sites around the trail, the path itself and the cloud forest region is protected by the state to ensure responsible tourism and conservation of heritage and nature. Due to this you will need a permit which is booked in advance to be able to undertake this trek. Please see What You Need To Know to discover more about availability, bookings and requirements.

It is a trek that consists of hiking, progressively getting more challenging. The heavy stoned pathways and iconic Incan steps make up this historic route. You will literally be following in the footsteps of an ancient civilisation. This gives purpose and pride to the trek; however, this kind of route is demanding and at least a moderate level of fitness will be needed to undertake it.
Southern Peru Explorers also provides variations of the Classic Incan trail, so we suit everyone. We have options to; either shorten the trek to accommodate for time restrictions or fitness level; lengthen it to include other historical or natural sites; or to swap from camping to hotels to provide a more comfortable luxurious experience.
