Machu Picchu Tickets and Inca Trail Availability

You can only enter Machu Picchu with a ticket for a set entry time and a set route through the site. Tickets are sold by Peru’s Ministry of Culture and the number per day is limited, so from May to September they often sell out days or weeks ahead.

How Machu Picchu tickets work

  • Each ticket is for one circuit, a route within it and an entry time. Inside the site you follow your route one way and cannot go back.
  • Circuit 1 covers the upper viewpoints and the classic photo of the citadel. Circuit 2 is the classic visit, with the viewpoints and the urban sector. Circuit 3 goes through the lower urban sector without the classic viewpoint.
  • Huayna Picchu, Machu Picchu Mountain and other short hikes are sold as separate routes with fewer places, so book them as early as you can.
  • You need your passport details to buy a ticket, and you show the same passport at the entrance.
  • Food is not allowed inside, and the only toilets are outside the entrance.

On our tours that visit Machu Picchu we book the entrance ticket for you, together with the train or bus, and a guide takes you through the site. On the Inca Trail, Machu Picchu entry comes with your trail permit, and you arrive through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku).
