What is a permit & What does it allow me to do?

Inca Trail Booking Tips

A permit is a government issued document which allows you to partake on any trek for specific dates that encompass the Inca trail. You need a permit for any company you go with, on any trek you attend for any length of time if you are stepping onto the trail.

There are checkpoints to make sure people have the correct permit for the correct date. Remember, Inca Trail Booking is vital for your journey!

Why do I need a permit?

The Peruvian Ministry of Culture is exclusively in charge of the permits and availability.

Restricted numbers are in place to minimise overcrowding on the trail and to preserve it as best as possible whilst still allowing people to experience its magic. If you do not have a permit you will be stopped at one of the checkpoints and will not be allowed to continue.

If I am going on a multi-day hike, do I need more than one permit?

No, you only need one permit per person no matter how long you are on the trail. You need to book it for the first day you will be stepping onto the Classic Inca trail.

Note: this may not be the start of your trip if you are visiting Lima, the Amazon, Sacred Valley, etc. first. Please check with your tour company exactly when to book it.

When is the best season to do Inca Trail?

The wet season between November and April will guarantee you rain. You may be in luck with showers between November and December.

However, January to March you are going to encounter some fairly big downpours. This is the warmer season, so if you are not put off by rain, you get the benefits of warmer days and nights.

The dry season between May and October graces you with wonderful sunshine during the days and clearer skies, which means you will be able to see the views without cloud and fog.

Although, at night the temperature can drop close to freezing or below. Please note that February the Inca trail and other protected sites are closed for the entire month for essential maintenance.

How to make a Booking

Once you have decided on your adventure, head over to the ‘Book Now’ tab. This will provide you with a booking form, and you will be asked for your details and information.

This will directly alert us to your booking, and after payment/deposit, reserve your spaces on the trek or tour you wish to attend.

After receiving this, we will send you an email with your next steps so we can obtain details about all the members of the party, book any tickets required on your behalf, and send you all the information you will need for your trek.

If these dates are flexible or unsure please just note that in the additional comments.

You must also make sure you are here at the very least a day before your trek to both become accustomed to the altitude and to attend our briefing.

Note: We do not conduct briefings over the weekend, so if your trek is commencing on a Monday, then you would need to be here on Friday for your briefing.
