When is the best time to visit rainbow mountain?

March – November is the dry season. Although June – August is the most pleasant. Rainbow Mountain however is open all year round.

How long does it take to get to Rainbow mountain from Cusco?

It takes approx 4-5 hours by car. The whole day round trip usually is around 10-12 including driving time, hiking and leisure time.

When was rainbow mountain rediscovered?

Rainbow Mountain was first discovered for its beautiful colored strips in 2015. The first tour to this point was January 2016 and the tracks that lead from the villages directly to the mountain were opened 2017.

Can you get altitude sickness on Rainbow mountain?

Yes, Rainbow Mountain is higher than Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu by a significant amount of meters. Therefore we suggest you look at our altitude sickness section to minimise your risk.

Do you need a guide to visit Rainbow Mountain?

When Booking a tour you will get a guide to go along with you including your meals and transport. There is no real way to hike up to rainbow mountain yourself and for the price of a day trip it would not be worth it to find a way to go by yourself. You will only be greeted with many other tours and guides when you get there.
