Inca Trail Availability 2023

The Availability Calendar below is an interactive tool provided by the Peruvian Government for all tour operators who are authorized to operate on the Inca Trail. The maximum number of Inca Trail permits per day is 500. The support staff is included within these five hundred, meaning that approximately 200 permits are allocated for tourists and the remaining 300 are for cooks, porters, and guides

How do I know the Inca Trail availability?

The government issues a calendar of availability which is live, constantly updated and used by every operator of the Incan Trail simultaneously. The calendar is the same for all tours and treks including the Incan route no matter how many days that may be. On the individual trek pages there is a tab which states availability here you can find the calendar and its bookable dates.

How long in advance do I need to book the Inca Trail?

Sometimes up to a year. There are only 500 permits allowed a day including that of support staff such as guides, porters and chefs. However, the good news is you can only book up to a year in advance, the new calendar is published and live for sales approx. October 5th. Permits go quick and waiting is not advised if you are trying to book for a certain time. We recommend booking your permit before flights and accommodation, in case this needs to change. If you are booking in peak season July & August, you may need to book 6 months in advance. However, if you are booking during the rainy season you may only need to book 2 months in advance.

What happens if I have to change the date of my booking?

Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do. Once booked the dates are set and cannot be changed or refunded. Your name and passport number will be on the permit so it cannot be used by anyone else.

Do I have to book the permit myself or will Southern Peru Explorers do it for me?

There is no way for tourists to book the permit themselves they must go with an experienced tour operator such as Southern Peru Explorers. The permit is included in the cost of your booking which also includes your Machu Picchu entrance ticket, transport, food, guide and equipment.
