Day 1

Cusco - Abra Malaga - Santa Maria

This unforgettable 4 day adventure trip to Macchu Picchu begins with pick up from your Hotel at 7:00 am. From there we head towards the sacred valley of the Incas; along the way enjoying spectacular scenery and picturesque villages. After a short break in Ollantaytambo we will continue driving for approximately 1 hour. We will arrive at the Abra Malaga mountain, the starting point of the downhill biking. After safety tips and preparations by our professional  tour guides we will descend for 3 hrs., passing through small villages, orchards, rivers and streams, stopping briefly in the town Huamanmarca (Inca ruins) and continuing on to our final destination of the day (Santa Maria) where we will have a delicious lunch. After lunch we will take a short rest and then prepare for an exciting rafting excursion down the Vilcanota river. The rapid level varies depending on the time of year, but never exceeds Level IV nor drops below Level II (No previous experience required). After our return, you can rest and recuperate or explore the beautiful town of Santa Maria. We will have dinner as a group and then be spending the night in hostel accommodations.
Day 2

Santa Maria - Santa Teresa

We will begin early in the morning after a hearty breakfast, climbing up the jungle Mountains (Not high Altitude); this also will include a section of the authentic Inca trail. This climb provides beautiful landscapes, local culture, animals, coffee and coca plantations, various native fruits such as: bananas, avocados, pineapples & passion fruit. We will stop for lunch in the town of Quellomayo where we will also have time to relax in a lovely garden area with hammocks. We will continue on in our journey crossing the Urubamba river and winding our day down once we reach the town of Santa Teresa for some much needed rest and relaxation after our nearly 16 km day trek. Here you can take an optional trip to the hot springs (additional 5 soles). We will have dinner as a group and then retire to our hostel accommodations for the night.
Day 3

Santa Terea - Aguas Calientes

After breakfast we will take a thrilling adventure flying through the air, 150 meters above the ground. This adventure includes 5 zip-lines on some of the highest, fastest and safest zip lines out there! Adventurers are securely harnessed and attached by pulley to the double cable anchored in 2 different mountains and canyon. You will zip line from one mountain to the other fast enough to feel like you are flying. There are 2,500 meters of cable in five sections. The longest section is 600m long and the highest is 180m high. The maximum speed reachable is 70km/h. You can chose to fly them straight or show off the dare devil within by diving head first or upside down…be creative! After our thrilling morning, we will drive to Hydroelectric, where we will have lunch. In the afternoon we will continue our journey, walking near the train rail to get to Machupiccu town (Aguas Calientes). We will have dinner and stay our last night in a hostel, at the foot of the great Machupicchu.
Day 4

Machu Picchu - Cusco

We will leave at 4:30 am to hike to Machu Picchu (one and a half hours) in order to arrive in time to appreciate the magnificent city as the sun is rising. Your guide will provide a two and a half hour walking tour of this lost city; shedding light issues pertaining to the design of their housing and family living situations. After your guided walking tour you have the choice to continue exploring, or chose to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (additional $10 USD) to gain an even better panoramic view of the entire area (this is an extra 45 minute walk and with limited availability, please arrange this when you book the tour with the office). We will return back by foot to Aguas Calientes, where you will take the train to Ollantaytambo and then be picked up and bussed back to Cusco.

WHY CHOISE SOUTHERN PERU EXPLORERS ?

Southern Peru Explorers operate all our own treks! Often times other companies, especially those offering daily departures, are just an intermediary. They instead send you on your trek with a 3rd party company. We take pride in operating all the treks we sell ourselves, allowing us to uphold the high tour standards we promise, minimize miscommunications, and give you personalized attention you deserve.

Southern Peru Explorers treat our staff like family! Peruvian Porter Law and Regulation dictates minimum standards and wages for porters. We give not only porters but all our staff a wage that exceeds the minimum wage and the average wages paid by most tour companies. Our porters, chefs, wranglers, and guides are all given supplies for the treks including ample food, sleeping bags, all weather clothing, boots, and back support. We also guarantee that our staff have a minimum number of treks per month and that their wage does not change throughout the year, providing them with stable income which helps relieve some of the uncertainties that can arise when working with other tour agencies during low season.

Southern Peru Explorers has great guides! We have a core team of guides that are specifically chosen for each group we book. They are trained, are able to speak English, and are very charismatic. We are constantly receiving feedback from our previous guests to make sure our guide team stays strong and providing quality service to our clientele. For every 12 people on a trek, we provide one guide, ensuring that each guest receives personal treatment and you dona t feel lost in the crowd. While other guides may take 16+ people, we limit our groups to 12 people to make sure your experience is unique to you. Upon request we also have guides that speak a multitude of languages including French, Italian, German, Chinese, and Japanese. Furthermore, we have guides that specialize in specific knowledge including ornithology, history, archaeology, and other plants and animals.

Southern Peru Explorers prides ourselves on our equipment! We choose quality brands for our tents, sleeping pads, and water filters. This equipment is checked for quality before each trek and renewed yearly making sure every trekker is comfortable and safe.

Southern Peru Explorers cooks up delicious meals! On our treks we provide not only breakfast, lunch, and dinner but also snacks and a break for tea. These are customizable around allergies or other special diets including vegetarian, vegan, Atkins, Gluten-free, etc. at no extra cost. Each of our meals is cooked by our chefs from quality natural ingredients from the area. We do not bring pre-packaged junk food nor do we serve generic bland dishes. Our chefs, trained with HACCP hygiene practices, will bring you safe, healthy, and delicious meals throughout your trek.

Southern Peru Explorers cares about the environment. On our all treks throughout the region we strive to be little to no impact. We train our staff to uphold our environmental expectations and our leave only footprints policy.

Southern Peru Explorers operates lawfully. There are many tour operators who do not declare all of their sales or alter their earnings to avoid paying certain taxes. However, here at Southern Peru Explorers we pay our 19% IGV, consumption tax, as well as the 30% tax due from all income.

Southern Peru Explorers has satisfied customers. From our testimonials and reviews you can see that our clients leave content and with wonderful memories. We have been operating for years proving our consistence and reliability in the services we provide.

While other tour companies over deep discounts for the same trek, this does not mean that they offer the same service as us. While price is always a deciding factor in one decision, please take into account the vast amount of differences between our agencies and others.

By supporting responsible tour companies, you are promoting the preservation of the land you are touring and helping rather than hurting local communities and business.

In order to hike the Inca Trail, you must have a permit which we will obtain for you.
