Arrival Lima – Welcome To Peru
Your family vacation with Southern Peru Explorers begins the moment you land here in Peru. Upon arrival to the Lima airport, just search for our Southern Peru Explorers staff member who will be holding a sign with your name. We will chauffeur you to your chosen hotel and assist with anything you may need. Lima – Cusco – Cusco City Tour
In the morning, you will be treated to a warm breakfast buffet at your hotel before heading back to the Lima airport for a 90-minute flight to Cusco. Make sure to keep an eye on the horizon as we transition from the Peruvian coast into the spectacular Andes mountains, the longest mountain chain in the world. The Sacred Valley Of The Incas
On Day 3, we will enjoy a jam-packed day exploring the best of the Sacred Valley. We will leave early from Cusco and drive 40 minutes to the educational center of Awana Cancha where you will have the opportunity to pet llamas and alpacas, and learn more about the wild camelid, the vicuña. We will continue another 20 minutes to the colonial town of Pisac. As we descend to Pisac, you will get to admire the impressive Inca terraces, made in the shape of a condor. We will

Cusco – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake – Salkantaypampa
We will pick you up early from your Cusco accommodation and travel 2 hours to the town of Limatambo, famous for their delicious avocados and the Tarawasi ruins. There, we will make an ascent up a bumpy road along the shore of the Apurimac River. Salkantaypampa – Soyrococha – Salkantay Pass – Huaracmachay – Qollpapampa
Day 2 will be the most challenging day, but you will be well rewarded with picturesque nature, wildlife, Inca ruins, and hot springs! We’ll depart early to make a 1-hour ascent to Salkantay Pass, the highest pass of the trek at 4600 m/ 15,090 ft. This beautiful lookout offers stunning views of glaciers and snow-capped peaks and serves as a natural habitat for chinchillas and condors. From the pass, we will hike down 2-3 hours to Huaracmachay for lunch.

Qollpapampa – La Playa – Lucmabamba
Leaving Qollpapampa we will ascend slightly before making a relaxed descent for the rest of the day. Having left the dry, high sierra climate behind, we will enjoy lush flora, waterfalls, fruit and coffee plantations, parrots, and even spectacled bears if we’re lucky. We will walk alongside the Santa Teresa river, passing the Coripacchi waterfalls, the settlement of Wiñaypoko, and the small town of La Playa. After La Playa, we will continue another 30 minutes to our campsite at

Lucmabamba – Aguas Calientes
After breakfast, we make a 2.5-hour ascent to El Mirador or Abra Q’elloqasa, a high lookout that provides an exceptional view of the renowned Machu Picchu. From El Mirador, we’ll continue upwards to the lost city of Llaqtapata at 2850m/ 9350ft, just recently re-discovered by archaeologists in 2003. This archeological complex offers impressive views of both Machu Picchu and Salkantay Mountain. There, we will share our final lunch together before making

Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
After a warm breakfast at our hotel, we will board an early bus to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, you will receive a 2-hour guided tour of all of the most significant sites while learning about Incan history and culture. Afterward, you will have some free time to explore a part of Machu Picchu on your own before returning to Aguas Calientes as a group by bus. In Aguas Calientes, you will have a large selection of restaurants to choose from for lunch. We’ll then board an afternoon

Cusco – Lima
Goodbye Cusco! We will shuttle you from your Cusco accommodation to the Alejandro Velasco Astete airport for your domestic flight back to Lima. This ends our service, but if you need recommendations for further Peru explorations let us know! you will have some free time to hike to the Inca Bridge, Watchman’s Hut, or just soak in the energizing atmosphere of Machu Picchu before returning to Aguas Calientes as a group by bus.
